SUMMARY:Doremus Scudder\, Death Valley Dunes - Sand and Stone
DESCRIPTION:Doremus Scudder\, Death Valley Dunes – Sand and Stone \nFebruary 28 through April 29\, 2026\nArtist reception on Saturday\, February 28 from 2-5 pm \nThe O’Brien Photo Gallery\n2833 Willamette\, Ste. B\nEugene\, OR 97405\n(541) 729-3572\nOpen weekdays from 1-5 pm. Call to be sure\nwe are open or to reserve a viewing time.\nemail: picmac1945@gmail.com\nweb: https://www.waltobrien.net/the… \n“I have been drawn to the stark\, unforgiving terrain of Death Valley since my first visit in the 1990s. In the midst of this otherwise rugged and unforgiving landscape lie pockets of surprising softness: Dunes. These lie baking in the blistering sun for the most part\, but in the glancing light of sunrise and sunset\, they take on an unexpected voluptuousness and sensuality. Their strong forms and many moods\, in my view\, are rendered more distinctly and powerfully with my chosen “instrument”: Black-and-white. \nI usually approach the landscape with patience\, and introspection\, but capturing the fleeting instants created by the moving light on the dunes requires working as quickly as I can with a 4×5 camera and a tripod. I have been fortunate enough to have been rewarded generously. I believe that the forms and textures in nature resonate strongly with our most basic natures\, demonstrating a kinship that we often overlook in our modern existence. I offer them in this spirit.” \nDoremus Scudder began photographing seriously in his early twenties\, eventually stepping up to\, and mastering the techniques of\, the view camera. He now works exclusively in black-and-white\, using large-format cameras and film\, and crafts silver-gelatin prints in the darkroom. Nothing is done using digital technology. \nWithin this medium\, he uses varied subject matter\, careful organization\, and a broad and expressive palette of tonalities to create images of strong form and character. For Doremus\, the \nfunction of art is to enrich and uplift the human spirit through excellence and beauty: it is to this end that he strives. The photographs themselves are their own best description\, expressing their wordless world eloquently in the language of light. \nDoremus Scudder’s work is exhibited widely and represented in numerous galleries and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. More of his work can be seen at his website: www.DoremusScudder.com \n

SUMMARY:Marc McVey\, Paris on Film
DESCRIPTION:Marc McVey\, Paris on Film \nMarch 14\, 2026 through April 08\, 2026\nOpening Saturday\, March 14th\, from 4-7pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \n  \nLightBox Photographic Gallery opens Paris on Film\, an exhibit by Marc Mcvey\, on Saturday\, March 14th from 4-7pm. “I explored the streets of Paris\, as I’ve done many times before\, but this time through the perspective of a 50mm lens on a forty plus year old Leica. Often called the ‘normal’ lens for its similarity to human vision\, this focal length allowed me to act as a quiet observer\, while isolating the intimate moments that define the city. I embraced a slower\, more intentional process in order to catch a glimpse of the timeless character of Paris. Shooting on film allowed me to accentuate light\, texture and grain\, and display the full beauty of fiber gelatin prints. ~ Marc McVey \nMarc McVey is a photographer living in Woodland\, WA. He has been photographing his travels for over 30 years\, looking for what he calls “accidental moments” and pairings that create their own narrative. His work has been sold in galleries in San Diego\, La Jolla\, Los Angeles\, Vancouver\, and Astoria. Marc McVey is a proud member of the LightBox Photographic Gallery Guild. \nComplete show info is on the LightBox website\, http://lightbox-photographic.com/shows/. LightBox also features work from The Guild at LightBox consisting of Jim Fitzgerald\, Jody Miller\, Julie Moore\, Marc McVey\, Rachel Wolf\, Kathy Radie\, Michael Puff Nicholas Dill and Loren Nelson. SUMMARY:Myron Filene\, Morning Light at the Delta

Well\, he was more interested in critters\, but I relished the enchantment that was sunrise bringing a glow onto the landscape: the trees\, the water\, the grasses\, to all about me. \nThe gift of light upon the land was that I could bring it home and let it light up the world of my studio space. \nMy intent in working with this material was to touch upon the awe I felt. To let others feel the beauty. \nAll inquiries and purchases will be handled by the artist. Phone 971-227-2907; myfi@teleport.com. \n

SUMMARY:Steve Rockoff at Franklin FOTO
DESCRIPTION:Steve Rockoff at Franklin FOTO \n \nApril 2026\nOpening Reception: Saturday\, April 4\, 2026\, 5–8 p.m. \nFranklin FOTO \n8953 N Lombard St\,\nPortland\, OR 97203\nWednesday – Sunday\, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.\nhttps://www.franklinfoto.org/\nCost: Free \nVisiting Dublin was already on Rockoff’s bucket list when he arrived in May 2024\, unbeknownst to him coinciding with the inaugural Dublin Street Photography Festival. Inspired by the city\, its sometimes eccentric but generally warm and friendly inhabitants\, the festival itself\, and the friendships formed with photographers Brian Sparks and Tony O’Shea\, he captured analog images that presented themselves as he explored the city’s sights. The experience was so enjoyable that he returned the following May\, again limiting himself to Dublin city and the coastal towns of Dublin County. \nShot on film\, the photographs are unplanned and instinctive – made\, as Rockoff puts it\, during “two springtime holidays when photographing on the streets was a passion.” \n“Again limited to Dublin city and county coastal towns\, these photographs are my visual souvenirs.” — Steve Rockoff
