SUMMARY:Fritz Liedtke's Crossroads at Trinity Cathedral
DESCRIPTION:Fritz Liedtke’s Crossroads at Trinity Cathedral \nJune 28-August 28\, 2025\nFirst Thursday Reception and Artist Talk: August 7\, 5-7pm\nTalk begins at 5:30pm \nTrinity Cathedral\n147 NW 19th Ave\nPortland\, OR 97209 \nArtist Fritz Liedtke Explores the Terrain of Faith and Transformation in Crossroads \nIn his new exhibition Crossroads\, artist Fritz Liedtke explores how belief shapes identity—and what happens when it begins to shift. Through three new series—Sacred\, Lost\, and The Weight of History—he reflects on how faith helps us endure\, opens us to others\, and transforms us through loss and transformation. \nThrough a fusion of photography\, encaustic\, and mixed media\, Liedtke constructs richly layered works that often borrow from the visual language of traditional religious iconography\, while reimagining them in unconventional\, contemporary forms. His materials and methods are as textured as the themes themselves: wax\, gold leaf\, photographic prints\, paper\, and embedded objects create surfaces that feel at once ancient and intimate. \nThese works do not offer easy answers. Instead\, they ask searching questions: What does it cost to cling to a belief? How do we love people different than ourselves? When belief begins to unravel\, what might we lose\, discover\, and become in the process? How does anyone endure discrimination\, oppression\, displacement\, and still carry on — even today? \nIn Crossroads\, Liedtke maps out a deeply personal—yet universally resonant—journey through doubt\, reverence\, memory\, and meaning. It is an invitation to pause\, reflect\, and perhaps recognize a bit of our own story in the layers. \nJoin Fritz for the First Thursday Reception and Artist Talk: \nFritz will talk about the process of making this work\, the stories behind the 3 projects\, and give a guided tour with lots of time for Q&A. \nAugust 7\, 5-7pm. Talk begins at 5:30pm. \nTrinity Cathedral\n147 NW 19th Ave\, Portland\, OR 97209 \nOpen Viewing Hours: \nDuring the week\, viewing times are: Sundays 8:30 am-12:00 pm; Tuesdays–Thursdays 10:00 am-3:00 pm \nThe show is located in the beautiful\, historic Trinity Cathedral\, in NW Portland: 147 NW 19th Ave\, Portland\, OR 97209 \nEnter through the central courtyard to the front door and ring the buzzer. The host at the Welcome Center will let you in. \nLearn more here: https://www.fritzliedtke.com/b…

SUMMARY:A Preservation of Character by Megan Sinclair
DESCRIPTION:A Preservation of Character by Megan Sinclair \nAugust 6-September 28\nOpening Reception- First Thursday\, August 7th\, 5-9pm \n\n[things/found] Atelier\n1704 NW Johnson Street\nPortland\, 97209\n(503) 512-9719\nwww.thingsfoundatelier.com \nWednesday\, August 6 – 12-7pm\nThursday\, August 7 – 4-9pm\nFriday\, August 8 – 11am-4pm\nClosed August 9-15\nSaturday\, August 16 12pm-7pm\nSunday\, August 17 12pm-7pm\nAugust 18 and beyond\, we’ll be open\nThursday-Friday-Saturday 12pm to 7pm \n\nA Preservation of Character \nAn exhibition of black/white analogue photography by Megan Sinclair \nPortland\, Oregon— A Preservation of Character will be the grand opening exhibition at NW Portland’s newest gallery space\, [things/found] Atelier. The public is invited to attend the opening reception and meet the artist on First Thursday\, August 7th\, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. \n“I long to see the world as I once did. I long to feel the world as I once did. \nIn A Preservation of Character\, I use the act of removal to incite vulnerability. I remove my clothing\, a physical layer of protection. I remove the hair from my head\, a totem of gender. I attempt to let go of protective behavior\, expression\, and thought. What I feel shields me from danger in the outside world has become a part of who I present myself as. \nHere\, I am neighbored only by textures\, shapes\, and light\, leaving me to observe and interact with myself. Who am I without these defenses? \nThis is an exercise in honesty\, and a longing for innocence. These are intimate moments of self-reflection\, and are presented to the viewer out of a need to share unguarded experience.” \nMegan Sinclair is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in analogue self-portrait photography that delves into the interconnectedness of body\, mind\, and environment. Through her work\, she uses vulnerability and image making as tools for processing and navigating personal trauma. Megan constructs in-home sets\, curating intimate spaces where distractions are minimized and self-expression feels safe. \nA 2020 graduate of California State University\, Sacramento\, with a Bachelor’s degree in Photography\, Megan’s projects have since been showcased internationally. Her work communicates emotional narratives and invites viewers into a dialogue about resilience. She currently resides in Oregon\, where she continues to create work that encourages a more open conversation of the human experience. \nwww.megansinclair.com \n[things/found] Atelier is half art gallery and half art/vintage store attached to the studio for local Portland artist\, Angel O’Brien. The gallery and store are open Thursday through Saturday noon-7pm\, as well as by appointment or whimsy.

SUMMARY:Jim Fitzgerald\, Bodie\, Windows Through Time / Pathways of Light
DESCRIPTION:Jim Fitzgerald\, Bodie\, Windows Through Time / Pathways of Light \nAugust 9 – September 10\, 2025\nArtist Talk: Saturday\, August 9th 3-4 pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \n\nLightBox is pleased to exhibit the masterful carbon transfer prints of Jim Fitzgerald. \nPlease join us for an Artist Talk by Jim on Saturday\, August\, 9 at 3pm before the opening reception from 4-7pm \nTwo masterful bodies of work presented in this show\, encompass the many years of Jim’s field work including dark room development for both film and handmade carbon transfer prints. \nThe images presented in “Bodie\, Windows Through Time\,” is the culmination of his many years exploring the historic ghost town of Bodie\, California located in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Working with his handcrafted 14 x 17 ultra large format camera at an elevation of 8\,375 feet takes thorough planning and intense determination. Jim invites the viewers to gaze into and through the windows and beyond to imagine what it was like in the 1880s to live and work in that inhospitable environment. Search the images for the ghosts of Bodie\, which magically appear in several of the weathered buildings and window reflections. \nEach one-of-a-kind 14 x 17 exhibition masterworks require multiple days to produce. Shot on film and hand printed in the historic process from 1864\, carbon transfer printing is rare in these days of AI technology and digital negatives. Each singular creation is a straight contact print from original film negatives transferred onto Kodak Ektalure G photographic paper and shot with a Cooke Series XV Triple Convertible lens. \n“Pathways of Light” presents our special forests of Yosemite National Park and the Redwoods of Northern California. Immerse yourselves and feel these images as you embark on a visual journey to very sacred places. \nThese 8 x 10 exhibition oeuvres emanated from Jim’s many years of experience with the special glow in these magical environments. \nAdditionally\, his handcrafted 8 x 10 film camera was used to expose this luminescence on Jim’s film. Each historic process Carbon Transfer contact print was handmade in his wet dark room from the original negatives\, aside from the fact that collectible soft focus lenses were used for this series of images. \nHandmade fine press edition books will be produced in the fall of 2025 to honor these places of historic importance which\, if not protected\, will be lost forever. \nFinally\, the codices collector edition mounted with a wire edge binding technique and inspired by master bookbinder Daniel Kelm\, contain all of the prints from this exhibition. All prints and text are original Carbon Transfer. \nRJF\, 2025 \nJim Fitzgerald\nCarbon Art Studios\nCarbon Art Photography\n5205 NE 136th Pl. \nShowpage – http://lightbox-photographic.c…

SUMMARY:The Analog Forever 2025 Exhibit at LightBox Photographic Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Analog Forever 2025 Exhibit at LightBox Photographic Gallery \nAugust 9 – October 8\, 2025\nOpening: Saturday\, August 9th 4-7pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nCongratulations tothe Photographers exhibiting in The Analog Forever Exhibit! \nAndy Mattern\, Anya Rise\, Ashley Humason\, Katrina Awramenko\, Bienyl Huelgas\, Bilha Soloman\, Bob Gervais\, Bruce Dumdei\, Caroline Lake Ponsi\, Chris Villiers\, Wendy Constatine\, Dana Day\, Dave Levingston\, Debbie Bently\, Donald MacDonald\, Edgar Praus\, J.M. Golding\, Lisa Tang Liu\, Margo Geddes\, Marni Myers\, David Marsh\, Greg Martin\, Matt Ragen\, Maureen Bond\, Maurie Smith\, Mehves Lelic\, Mitch Eckert\, Paula Pink\, Ronald Butler\, Sara Rice\, Seth Gannon\, Tatsu Ikeda\, Teri Figiluzi\, Zemula Barr \nAt the dawn of photography our hopes and sights were set on finding the science that would allow us to produce an image with light and to display the latent image. It was the inquisitive scientific mind\, the human hand and creative ideas that furthered the Art of Photography. In the world of today current photographic technology and past process discoveries are merging and we see creative photographic works that use both modern resources and the touch of the human hand with historical photographic processes. \nLightBox Photographic Gallery and Analog Forever Magazine have formed a partnership with The Analog Forever Exhibit. We wish to celebrate the lessons we have learned\, the processes we have discovered and the paths we have forged in the Analog Forever Gallery Exhibit. The work in this exhibit all includes an analog element of photographic means. It can start in an analog manner or medium or it may include any of the same throughout the process\, or just the final piece may be an analog photographic print. There must be at least one analog element in the creative process. Our hope for the exhibition is that stirs the soul and the senses. \nShowpage – http://lightbox-photographic.c…

SUMMARY:Julie Moore\, With gratitude and love: postcards from the intersection of myth and memory
DESCRIPTION:Julie Moore\, With gratitude and love: postcards from the intersection of myth and memory \nSeptember 13 – October 8\, 2025\nReception: Saturday\, September 13\, from 4-7pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nPlease join us for the artist opening reception on Saturday\, September 13\, from 4-7pm. \n“With gratitude and love: postcards from the intersection of myth and memory” invites viewers into a contemplative space where personal recollections intertwine with universal narratives. Through this collection\, I explore the profound emotional landscapes shaped by the stories we tell ourselves and the memories we hold dear\, offering glimpses into moments of deep appreciation and affection. \nEach piece in this series functions as a “postcard”—a distilled moment\, a visual fragment designed to evoke rather than explicitly narrate. Just as a postcard carries a brief message across distances\, this artwork bridges the gap between ‘my’ deeply personal and the collectively understood. I delve into how our individual experiences (memory) are often framed or echoed by larger cultural narratives (myth)\, revealing the enduring human quest for meaning and connection. My process involves layering and mixed media to visually represent the ephemeral nature of memory and the enduring power of myth\, creating textures and forms that suggest both fragility and resilience. The choice of translucent materials and fragmented imagery is deliberate\, aiming to capture the fleeting yet impactful essence of these “postcards\,” inviting viewers to piece together their own interpretations. \nMy hope is that these “postcards” serve as catalysts for personal reflection\, prompting viewers to consider their own intersections of myth and memory. I invite you to engage with each piece as a quiet conversation\, allowing the visual language to resonate with your own experiences of gratitude and love\, whether for people\, places\, or the very act of remembering. It is through this shared exploration that the work finds its fullest expression\, fostering a sense of universal connection. \nUltimately\, “with gratitude & love” is an homage to the intricate tapestry of human experience—a testament to the power of stories\, both personal and collective\, to shape our understanding of the world and our place within it. It is a heartfelt offering\, celebrating the profound beauty found at the confluence of what we remember and what we believe\, what we love and what we have lost. \nShowpage – http://lightbox-photographic.c…

This will be a one-day workshop with a two-hour break mid-session. \nYou’ll receive guidance from an experienced instructor who will share tips on best practices and help you troubleshoot common issues. Whether it’s perfecting the development process or fine-tuning your print’s contrast\, they’ll be by your side to ensure you leave with the knowledge and skills to confidently use a darkroom on your own. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you’ll have not only developed your own roll of black and white film but also created a series of prints from your negatives. \nThe workshop provides 1 roll of film\, and 10 sheets of photographic paper for developing and printing during class time. The workshop also includes 3 weeks of membership here at Franklin FOTO so you can continue to come in and develop more film and make more prints (you will need to provide your own extra film and paper for lab time outside of classes). \nThe class is capped at eight students so that the focus can be on individual learning. \nAt Franklin FOTO we never want finances to be a barrier to access. Please feel free to use our sliding-scale to pay whatever amount makes sense for your budget. \nVisit our website for complete information and to register.

SUMMARY:Megan Sinclair\, A Preservation of Character Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Megan Sinclair\, A Preservation of Character \nAugust 6 -September 28 \nArtist Talk – Sunday\, September 28th at 12pm\, followed by a closing party until 4pm \n[things/found] Atelier\n1704 NW Johnson Street\nPortland\, 97209\n(503) 512-9719\nHours: Thursday-Friday-Saturday 1pm to 7pm\nwww.thingsfoundatelier.com \n\nA Preservation of Character \nAn exhibition of black/white analogue photography by Megan Sinclair \nPortland\, Oregon— A Preservation of Character will be the grand opening exhibition at NW Portland’s newest gallery space\, [things/found] Atelier. \nwww.megansinclair.com \n[things/found] Atelier is half art gallery and half art/jewelry/vintage store attached to the studio for local Portland artist\, Angel O’Brien. The gallery and store are open Thursday through Saturday 1pm-7pm\, as well as by appointment or whimsy.

SUMMARY:Angel O'Brien\, Revelations & Reincarnations
DESCRIPTION:Angel O’Brien\, Revelations & Reincarnations \nOpening Saturday\, October 4th 5-8pm\nRuns through October \nFranklin FOTO \n8953 N Lombard St\,\nPortland\, OR 97203\nWednesday – Sunday\, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.\nhttps://www.franklinfoto.org/ \nRevelations & Reincarnations \nThis series addresses the simultaneously personal yet deeply universal experience of living in an imperfect body. This world quite wrongfully demands that perfection be limited to the young and privileged\, and so through these photographs\, I ponder the explorations of life and its glorious complexities that is afforded someone who made it past the “youthful” years and am decidedly enjoying an era of revelations and reincarnations. The wrinkles\, scars\, aches + pains\, plus sized clothing\, and my glorious white hair are each passages in the book of my life written into my layers skin for all to see. \nEach of these photographs are made by hand either in my basement darkroom or at Franklin FOTO using a variety of alternative processes as well as silver gelatin. Like all humans\, each print is beautifully unique and one of a kind. Through the use of additional artistic mediums such as embroidery\, paper collage\, cardboard sculpture\, paint\, etc.\, you will see that many of these photographs are not simply photographic prints. Even though a photograph is indeed worth a thousand words\, sometimes I have even more to say. \nwww.thingsfoundatelier.com/angelobrien

An odd thing to say\, perhaps\, considering there is so little of it out there. But that wasn’t always so. During the late Pleistocene\, the entire expanse of the Great Basin was covered by vast inland seas. Over the last 10\,000 years they ever so slowly dried up\, leaving the arid\, steppe terrain we’re familiar with today.. \nhttp://lightbox-photographic.c… \nBill Kirby • Portraits of King’s Hill \nOn a quiet fall morning in Portland’s King’s Hill neighborhood I discovered historic homes illuminated by soft light on their century-old facades. What began as a few images soon became a project to explore the neighborhood’s history\, atmosphere\, and distinctive architectural styles. Portraits of King’s Hill is a series that capture each residence’s character and presence. \nhttp://lightbox-photographic.c… \nComplete show info is on the LightBox website\, http://lightbox-photographic.c…. SUMMARY:Carol Isaak\, SEASONS: Lan Su Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Carol Isaak\, SEASONS: Lan Su Gardens \nOct. 3 – Nov. 3\, 2025 \nOpening Reception:\nFriday\, Oct. 3 from 5-6 pm\, during the Eugene First Friday Artwalk \nArtist’s Talk:\nSunday\, Oct. 19\, 2:30 pm at the Emerald Art Center\, 500 Main St\, Springfield\, OR 97477 Tel: (541) 726-8595 \n\nDot Dotson’s Gallery\n1668 Willamette St.\nEugene\, OR 97401\n(541) 485-1771\nMon-Fri: 10 am – 5:30 pm\nSat: 10 am – 2 pm\ndotdotsons.com \nFree and open to the public \n\nSEASONS\nLAN SU GARDENS \nLan Su Garden in downtown Portland\, Oregon\, is one of the most stunning and authentic Chinese scholar gardens in North America. Photographer Carol Isaak found refuge there during the pandemic and fell in love with its archways\, plants\, bridges\, and the way modulated light would puncture its exterior walls. Isaak photographed the garden in all four seasons for this collection in an attempt to express the serenity she felt while in the garden. \nChinese scholar gardens are meant to express calm and provoke contemplation. The layers and shadows in Isaak’s work do both these things. The garden is a collaboration between sister cities Portland and Suzhou\, China. Lan Su is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025. \nIn Carol Isaak’s words: “I call myself an opportunistic photographer—an adventurer at heart. When COVID curtailed travel\, the freedom to photograph regularly in Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden became a vital outlet\, easing my longing to explore. Lan Su reconnected me with my deep love for Chinese culture. Entering the garden beneath the poetic inscription\, “The Garden of Awakening Orchids\,” I was transported—viscerally and visually—to Suzhou\, China. Suzhou\, Portland’s sister city and the inspiration for Lan Su\, is a place I had the privilege of visiting twice. It’s an astonishing city\, rich with artistry and tradition. \nAs I began to explore the Garden’s mysteries\, the seasons shifted—and so did my vision. Over three years\, I collaborated with the space\, allowing my eye to follow its changing light and subtle rhythms. In time\, it became my home away from home. Floating between the magical and the material\, I photographed without a plan—simply responding to the Garden. I’m delighted to bring my work back to the source of the Lan Su Garden.” \nCarol Isaak’s art education was at The Cooper Union (BA) in NYC where she lived for a significant time. She has been a Portland Art Museum docent/educator for twenty years\, specializing in photography\, Asian and contemporary art. Her affinity towards Asian subject matter has led to extensive work that has been showcased in five separate Chinese cultural festivals. Her Chinese portfolio has also been exhibited widely in the Pacific Northwest. as well as numerous exhibits in the United States. Her work is exhibited widely and collected by museums\, universities and private collectors. \nwww.carolisaakphoto.com

SUMMARY:Greg Giesy\, Colors of Nature
DESCRIPTION:Greg Giesy\, Colors of Nature \nNovember 1 through December 31.\nArtist reception on Saturday November 1 from 1-5 pm.\nClosing reception will occur on Saturday December 20 from 1-5 pm. \nThe O’Brien Photo Gallery\n2833 Willamette\, Ste. B.\nEugene\, OR 97405\n(541) 729-3572 \nHours will be from 1-5 on week days\, call to make special viewing arrangements.\nemail: picmac1945@gmail.com\nweb: https://www.waltobrien.net/the… \n\n“As people go through life on a daily basis\, the colors of nature around them are for the most part generalized. The sky is blue\, the tree is green\, and the squirrel is brown. At rare times during the year people may notice the bright red of a rose in spring or the yellow\, orange\, and red of leaves in fall. \nPainters expand that pallet of nature’s colors by mixing their paints to find the shades of that red rose\, lighten and darkening the blue of the sky\, or noting that there are several shades of yellow\, orange\, and red in those fall leaves. Looking closer they may note some green in the yellow and some brown in the orange of those leaves. But even most painters don’t see like a camera’s photographic vision picking up multitudes of tones\, shades\, and colors. \nPhotographers take what the camera records and turn that into what the photographer sees. That vision may be idealized or as true to human vision as the photographer can make it. The choice is the photographers’ to decide how to show the colors of nature.” \nAs an award-winning nature photographer Greg has a keen interest in the state of not only our wild places but our urban environment – the world outside our door. His years of experience have honed his eye to focus on and appreciate the details present in nature. He believes that the average person should spend more time to notice and focus on where we live. People need to connect\, appreciate\, and protect the world around them. \nGreg has been a serious photographer for over fifty years. He has ranged in styles from fine art black and white photography to architectural photography\, to color commercial product macro photography\, to event photography\, and onto nature photography which includes wide-angle\, macro\, and telephoto in both color and black & white photos of plant\, flower\, landscapes\, bird\, and other wildlife. \nHis photography is enhanced by his background in architecture\, jewelry\, and landscape design and construction. To help him produce the maximum detail in his digital photos he now uses the Canon R5 Mark II mirrorless camera with better focus tracking\, exceptional clarity\, stabilization\, and extreme telephoto lenses as shown in the photographs that are on display. \nTo see more of his photography\, go to his website www.greggiesyphotography.com or he can be reached at his email address ggsb@continet.com. \nHe also has photos with other members’ of PhotoZone on their website www.photozonegallery.com under Online Gallery and Member Projects.

SUMMARY:Outside by Keith Z at [things/found] Atelier
DESCRIPTION:Outside by Keith Z at [things/found] Atelier \nNovember 6-29\nOpening Reception- First Thursday\, November 6th\, 5-9pm \n[things/found] Atelier\n1704 NW Johnson Street\nPortland\, 97209\n(503) 512-9719\nHours: Thursday-Friday-Saturday 1pm to 6pm\nwww.thingsfoundatelier.com \nOutside by Keith Z is a photographic collaboration with Portland’s homeless community\, combining photography\, social work\, and storytelling in order to create a better understanding of that community. \nThe work is comprised of portraits of community members\, environmental photographs of the circumstances in which they live\, long form interviews with these individuals\, and stories about those who are gone. All of the photos and stories are made collaboratively with community members\, with full consent and knowledge\, based on trust\, relationships\, and shared experience. \nOutside establishes proof of life for community members who are willfully ignored by family\, friends and larger society. Both the images and the storytelling focus on the human dimensions of an existential\, life threatening struggle that are often eschewed in favor of more sensational fare. The book provides space to become intimate with community members they might never have known\, the hope being that with better understanding comes better fellowship and better solutions. \nKeith Z lives\, photographs and reaches out to his community in Portland\, Oregon. A recovering addict and alcoholic who was homeless himself for some years\, lived experience informs his work. He has worked in a variety of transitional housing facilities and clinics. \n[things/found] Atelier is half art gallery and half art/vintage/jewelry store attached to the studio for local Portland artist\, Angel O’Brien. The gallery and store are open Thursday through Saturday 1-6pm\, as well as by appointment or whimsy.
