SUMMARY:Teresa Meier\, Wondertales
DESCRIPTION:Teresa Meier\, Wondertales \nOctober 7 – 27\, 2026 \nOpening Reception: Friday\, October 16th from 5-6 pm\nHors d’oeuvres and libations. The artist will be present. \nDot Dotson’s Gallery\n1668 Willamette St.\nEugene\, OR 97401\nMon-Fri: 10 am – 5:30 pm – Sat 10 am – 2 pm\nphotographyatoregon.org \nFree and open to the public \nIn this series of autobiographical self-portraits\, viewers are invited on a fairytale-like journey that explores the internal landscape of the mind through the lens of the surreal. Identity is explored via the interwoven complexities of past and present and\, specifically\, how the past shapes and dictates our perception of our present self and relationships. Viewers are enveloped by large-format works that often leave them suspended in moments of rising tension; the fantastical subject matter and use of vibrant\, luscious colors result in eye-catching and wonder-filled imagery. The use of collage and hand-assembled props allows me to construct my own world and find my own narrative\, while the use of photography tethers the story to this world and place in time. It is a cathartic series that investigates the wonder of myth\, the beauty of nature\, the curiosity of humanity\, and above all\, strives for hope. \nTeresa Meier is an Eugene-based multimedia artist who creates surrealist self-portrait photo montages. Her large-format narrative works incorporate themes of home\, nature\, and the interaction between humans and their environment\, often leaving the viewer suspended in moments of rising tension. Ms. Meier is drawn to self-portraiture and surrealism for their cathartic ability to articulate the intangible and connect with people emotionally\, generating feelings of wonder\, curiosity\, and hope. She believes art can open hearts and expand minds\, and she seeks opportunities to inspire change and promote well-being through art. Ms. Meier holds a Master’s in Fine Arts in photography and enjoys teaching photography and traditional art at Lane Community College. \nMs. Meier was recently awarded Judge’s Award at Emerald Art Center\, both Director’s and Juror’s Award at PhotoPlace Gallery\, honorable mentions at the PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris\, the Ringholz Art Supply Award\, second place at the Szeklerland Photo Biennial\, and Director’s honorable mention at the Center for Fine Art Photography. Her work has been exhibited internationally and appeared in Lensculture\, Don’t Take Pictures\, Pro Photo Daily\, Communication Arts\, Knoxville Museum of Art\, Houston Center for Photography\, and The Cooperative of Photography. \nhttps://www.teresameier.com \n

SUMMARY:Toy Cameras and “Happy Accidents” class with Jody Miller
DESCRIPTION:Toy Cameras and “Happy Accidents” class with Jody Miller \nOctober 24\, 2026\, 11am – 1pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm\nThe cost for the class is $99\, with all materials provided!\nLightBox members receive a 10% discount. \n\nLightBox is excited to offer Toy Cameras and “Happy Accidents”\, a photo class that explores the unique world of Toy Cameras. Great for beginners and seasoned photographers alike! \nVintage Toy Cameras are made with plastic with a plastic lens\, a single shutter speed and a fixed aperture. Many of these cameras were sent to young kids of the 50’s and 60’s in return for cereal box tops and they were spread around the globe. The use of these cameras\, ie: Diana\, Holga\, and many others\, became popular as photographic artists discovered the beauty of the less than perfect images that often resulted. Toy camera imperfections allow the photographer to create one-of-a-kind artwork that is truly original and set apart from typical photographic art. The “Happy Accidents” created within a toy camera give each image a unique and very personal stamp of creativity. \nThis two hour class begins with a lesson on camera functions\, capabilities\, and the serendipitous style of shooting. Jody Miller\, our class leader will lead a group around Astoria with various Toy Cameras in all hands. You will capture a roll of film\, and the results will be viewed in an online gallery the following week. A digital contact sheet will be sent to you the week after the workshop\, with possibility of further individual image scans or prints. \nThe cost for the class is $99\, with all materials provided! \nLightBox members receive a 10% discount. \nContact grace@lightbox-photographic.com to sign up. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Melanie Flood\, Paraphernalia: Femininity\, Objects\, and the Archive
DESCRIPTION:Melanie Flood\, Paraphernalia: Femininity\, Objects\, and the Archive \nPortland Art Museum Photography Council Lunchtime Talk Series \nWednesday\, October 28\, 2026\, 12 noon to 1pm \nPortland Art Museum\n1119 SW Park Ave.\nPortland\, OR 97205\nwww.portlandartmuseum.org / 503 226 2811\nCost: Free to the public. \n  \nArtist Melanie Flood discusses her thirty-eight-year photographic archive and the “paraphernalia” that runs through it. The word began as a legal term for the property a married woman kept as her own—such as her clothing\, jewelry\, toiletries\, and personal effects—yet these objects are routinely dismissed as superficial because they are coded female. She considers the forces that shaped her practice\, from the formation of gender ideals to the professionalization of the arts\, and the space midlife creates to strip constraints away. \nMelanie Flood (b. NY; lives and works in Portland\, OR) employs photography as a tool for examining how femininity is constructed\, commodified\, and performed. Working across self-portraiture\, studio still lifes\, and vernacular image-making\, her work draws on the archive\, beauty culture\, and the aesthetics of everyday feminine life. \nRecent exhibitions include the Schneider Museum of Art\, Ashland\, OR; ILY2\, Portland\, OR; Ruschwoman\, Chicago\, IL; Fourteen30 Contemporary\, Portland\, OR; and Ditch Projects\, Springfield\, OR. She has received support from the Oregon Arts Commission\, the Ford Family Foundation\, and the Regional Arts and Cultural Council. From 2008 to 2022 she founded and directed Melanie Flood Projects\, an artist-run exhibition space established in Brooklyn\, NY. She holds a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts and an MFA in Contemporary Art Practice from Portland State University\, where she teaches in the Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design. \nhttps://www.melanieflood.com/

SUMMARY:Bryan Andresen\, Photographs of People Simply Being Human
DESCRIPTION:Bryan Andresen\, Photographs of People Simply Being Human \nOctober 31 through January 6\, 2027\nReception with refreshments on October 31 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. \nThe O’Brien Photo Gallery\n2833 Willamette\, Ste B.\nEugene\, OR 97405\n(541) 729-3572\nCall ahead to be sure we are open or to set special viewing times. \n  \nEvery Picture Tells a Story: Photographs of People Simply Being Human \nI am drawn to the magic of a photograph capturing a moment in a person’s life that evokes individuality\, personality\, and emotion. I strive to photograph a connection that person shares with me\, a loved animal\, or their surroundings. Is it their expression\, body position\, or hand gesture that captivates me? Does the photograph capture a moment in time that is\, or will be\, important to that person? I may photograph a person I’ve known for decades\, or perhaps known only in a brief encounter. As Kermit the Frog wisely tells us: “Life is made up meetings and partings. That is the way of it”. I value and feel honored to briefly be a part of that person’s tapestry of life. \nIn addition to close-up portraits\, I have included several “Where’s Waldo?” photos in this exhibit. The inclusion of a very small human figure is intentional. These images evoke not just the smallness of humans within a vast physical environment\, but a connection to a larger world. \nWith my camera\, I seek to capture not just an interesting image of people\, but an element of the mystery of what it means to be human. \nAdditional images of Bryan’s work may be viewed at: www.andresenphoto.com \nBorn in Portland\, raised in Junction City\, and currently living outside Eugene\, Bryan has relatively deep roots as a fifth-generation Oregonian. \nHis photographs typically are the result of an enthusiastic journey in search of unique glimpses of our world and its inhabitants. Bryan has had a life-long interest in photography; from his earliest years\, a camera has typically accompanied him on outings. \nTwo experiences in his youth had a lasting effect on him. When he was 18\, he survived a near-fatal mountaineering accident in which he fell 600 feet down rock\, snow\, and ice. Then\, while studying hummingbirds in Costa Rica during college\, he revived an unconscious\, non-breathing man who had been pulled from the ocean. These experiences had a lasting effect on him and helped form his appreciation of and veneration for human life. \nStarting in 2016\, he has described himself as a “serious amateur” photographer. He conjectures that the toxic and ugly political climate of that year stimulated in him a deep desire to bring something of worth\, meaning\, and beauty into the world. \nRetiring from medical practice in 2019\, he joined Eugene’s Photo Zone the same year. He now devotes considerable time\, passion and enthusiasm to the study and practice of photography. \n
