SUMMARY:A Clothesline show by students of Walt O'Brien's Platinum Classes
DESCRIPTION:A Clothesline show by students of Walt O’Brien’s Platinum Classes \nShowing from March 7 to March 28\nReception on First Friday\, March 7 from 5:30 – 8:00 pm (calendar). \nFramin’ Artworks\n505 High Street\nEugene\, OR 97401\n(541) 683-8111\nOpen Monday – Friday 10-5\, Saturday 10-3\nhttps://framinartworks.com/ \nAround June of 2017 Walt O’Brien began teaching the old process of platinum/palladium printing at his lab. The class has 2 to 3 students per class. Since then there have been 35 students\, many of which have taken the class multiple times. In 2019 Walt’s gallery hosted a clothesline show of student work up to that point. \nRecently\, Framin’ Artworks invited Walt’s students to have a clothesline show in their gallery in downtown Eugene. 15 to 20 students will be represented in the show and it will be on the first Friday Art Walk of Eugene. \nWalt will be there to answer questions and a video presentation by Bostick and Sullivan will demonstrate the process. Platinum/Palladium printing has been done since the late 1800’s and is still practiced by many photographers. \nWalt continues to offer the class on a regular basis. Students learn how to make a digital negative\, coat emulsions\, control contrast\, expose and process prints using a modified printing method. Bostick and Sullivan of Santa Fe New Mexico is one of the suppliers of materials and has modified the process in recent years. Walt uses their newer process to teach the class. \nO’Brien Photo Imaging is located at 2833 Willamette in Eugene. Contact Walt for more information at: picmac1945@gmail.com or visit his website at \nhttps://www.waltobrien.net/cus….

SUMMARY:“InSight” - An Exhibit of the Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild
DESCRIPTION:“InSight” – An Exhibit of the Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild \nMarch 12 through April 25\, 2025\nReception Friday March 14\, 5:30 – 7:30pm (calendar) \nThe Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center\n875 SW 26th St.\nCorvallis\, OR 97331 \n541-737-9315\nhttps://lasells.oregonstate.ed…\nhours: 8am-5pm weekdays and evenings during scheduled events \nFor its 13th biennial exhibit at the LaSells Stewart Center\, members of the PhotoArts Guild were asked to respond to the theme\, “InSight\,” suggesting not only what is in a photographer’s field of vision\, but also what lies more deeply behind the scenes. The result is a wide-ranging display of more than 60 color and black-and-white prints by 27 local photographers on all manner of subjects\, from landscapes and portraits to abstracts. \nThis year’s show is dedicated to the memory of Lorraine Richey\, a long-time guild member who lost a long battle with cancer last fall. A graduate of Oregon State University and a resident of Portland\, Richey was an inspirational photographer who moved fluidly among genres during her 40-year photographic career. She is best known for her multi-layered abstractions created with her I-phone\, several examples of which are in this exhibit. \nThe PhotoArts Guild was formed 40 years ago to promote and support fine art photography in the mid-valley and has been an affiliated guild of the Corvallis Art Center since 1988. The group has evolved over the decades from one focused primarily on large-format film photography to one populated mostly by digital camera artists pursuing non-commercial forms of the medium–landscape\, wildlife\, portrait\, fine art\, nature and more.

SUMMARY:The Art of Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Long Exposure Photography with Thibault Roland \nLecture at Pro Photo Supply: March 27\, 2025\nIn-person workshop in the Hood River area: March 30th\, 2025 \nPro Photo Supply\n1112 NW 19th Ave\nPortland\, OR 97209 \nhttps://prophotosupply.com/ \n$25 – $135 (Eventbrite) \n\nPhotography has the power to freeze time\, to capture the world and reality. In most people’s minds\, photography has to be truthful to reality. It has to depict a scene\, atmosphere\, or event accurately. But photography is so much more than a simple tool to document our lives… \nPhotography is also a way to express ourselves and our point of view\, to share our messages. Photography allows us to change what we see based on our emotions and intent. Photography can be abstract and minimalistic. Photography is art. \nLong exposure is a technique that embraces this mindset: it transforms reality into something else\, into a dialogue between the artist\, the subject\, and the viewer. By stretching the time used to capture a single image\, the photographer includes movement in their art: water becomes smooth\, clouds create long silky streaks\, trees blur out in the wind… the effects are endless. \nLed by Sony Artisan of Imagery\, Thibault Roland\, this event consists of two sessions. \nThe first session is a virtual lecture on long exposure\, during which you will learn the process and what equipment you need to create breathtaking images using this unique technique. If you are not able to join this virtual session\, it will be recorded and provided to all registered attendees. \nThe second part of this event consists of a half-day\, hands-on workshop in Hood River area\, where you will have the opportunity to capture beautiful long-exposure images and benefit from Thibault’s in-person advice to take your skills to the next level. During this workshop\, we will capture scenes located along the Columbia River utilizing the beautiful landscapes found along the gorge. \nNorthwest Sony rep Dan Hawk will be present to bring several of Sony’s most popular lenses and cameras for this style of photography for attendees to get hands-on with during this workshop! These cameras and lenses will be limited and loaned out on a first come first serve basis. \nWhat to Bring*:\n• Camera (with bulb mode capability necessary)\n• Lens (16-35mm and 24-70mm recommended)\n• Memory card (bring extra if you want to try a Sony camera!)\n• Extra Batteries\n• A shutter release (can be wired or remote)\n• ND Filter (13- to 16- stop recommended) – these can be screw-mount or square; more details during the lecture!\n• Step up ring to use the filter on multiple lenses\n• Sturdy Tripod \n*if you need any piece of equipment\, please check out Pro Photo Supply to purchase or rent what gear you may need. Your order confirmation email for this event will even include a code for 25% off any rentals placed for this workshop. \nDon’t miss this chance to refine your skills and explore new photographic perspectives! \n\n6:30 PM – 8:30 PM \nVirtual Lecture – March 27th \nPrice: $25 \n________________________________________ \nA lecture on long exposure\, during which you will learn the process\, skills\, and equipment you need to take your skills to the next level and create breathtaking images using this unique technique. Five years later\, in an era of renewed political upheaval\, we reexamine that time with Sai’s images. \n“Sai’s photography captures the raw intensity and significance of the 2020 police brutality protests\, amidst a backdrop of social unrest and a global pandemic. Through his lens\, he skillfully navigates the chaotic and emotionally charged scenes\, documenting the powerful moments that unfold on the streets of Portland Oregon. \nHis photographs convey a profound sense of urgency and activism\, reflecting the collective outcry for justice and equality. Each frame captures the human spirit\, as protesters bravely confront systemic issues and demand societal change. These photographs reveal the diverse faces and voices at the heart of these movements\, providing a platform for marginalized communities to be seen and heard.” \n-Sai Stone \nAn opening reception is scheduled for Saturday\, April 5\, from 5-8 p.m. \nSai’s work will be on display through the month of April. \nFranklin Foto is a community darkroom and gallery space located in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood. SUMMARY:Small and Connected group show at LightBox Photographic Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Small and Connected group show at LightBox Photographic Gallery \nSaturday\, April 12\, from 4-7pm\nShow runs from April 12th – May 3rd \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery opens Small and Connected\, an Exhibit by the Guild at LightBox\, on Saturday\, April 12\, from 4-7pm. \nThis exhibit challenges the traditional notion of scale\, suggesting that size is not a measure of importance. These prints\, though small in scale or modest in subject matter\, reveal the complexity and beauty of a world that often goes unseen. \nThe works in this exhibit remind us that the smallest of moments can hold profound meaning. With each photograph the artists capture threads that connect disparate elements yet resonate with deeper significance upon reflection. \nThrough a diverse range of techniques these photographers use their skills to build an emotional landscape where everything is linked\, where the tiniest details have a ripple effect. “Small and Connected” is an invitation to slow down\, observe\, and discover the profound stories hidden in the simplest of things. \nThe exhibit runs until May 3rd. Complete show info is on the LightBox website\, http://lightbox-photographic.c…. The Guild at LightBox include Jim Fitzgerald\, Jody Miller\, Julie Moore\, Marc McVey\, Rachel Wolf\, Kathy Radie\, Michael Puff and Loren Nelson.

SUMMARY:Zemie Barr\, 2\,000 Miles and Back: Traversing Changing Landscapes at Portland Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Zemie Barr\, 2\,000 Miles and Back: Traversing Changing Landscapes at Portland Art Museum \nPortland Art Museum Photography Council’s Lunchtime Talk Series \nApril 16\, 2025\nWednesday\, Noon to 1pm\nPortland Art Museum\nTrustee Room\, 4th Floor in the Mark Building\n1219 SW Park Avenue\, Portland\, OR 97205\nwww.portlandartmuseum.org / 503 226 2811 \nCost: Free and open to the public \n\nIn her lunchtime talk\, Portland-based artist and curator Zemie Barr will share recent photographic work made from 2021 onward. That year\, she moved from Portland to Chicago\, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and during a particularly devastating fire season for the Pacific Northwest. These events led the artist to create multiple photo-based series to process the grief associated with witnessing the effects of climate change in real time. Using found imagery\, as well as analog and digital photographs taken while traveling across the country and beyond\, the artist balances these feelings of loss with an aesthetic focus on the sublime beauty and magical potential still present in the natural world. \nZemie Barr is an artist and curator based in Portland\, Oregon\, where she previously served as Exhibitions Director at Blue Sky Gallery and co-founded Wolff Gallery. Zemie uses digital and analog photography to explore themes of memory\, loss\, and our relationship to the natural world. Most recently\, her work has been exhibited at Perspective Gallery in Evanston\, IL; Lightbox Photographic Gallery in Astoria\, OR; Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg\, OR; and in online exhibitions hosted by the Center for Fine Art Photography\, ArtDoc Magazine\, and F-Stop Magazine. In 2022 she was selected as one of Photolucida’s Top 200 Critical Mass Finalists. \nhttps://www.zemulabarr.com \n\nAbout the Photography Council \nThe Portland Art Museum Photography Council offers its members unique opportunities to learn more about the history of photography with Julia Dolan\, Ph.D.\, the Museum’s Minor White Curator of Photography. Council membership dues support the acquisition of photographs for the permanent collection. The members’ annual print share meeting\, private tours with Dr. Dolan\, and special invitations to lectures by renowned photographers are just some of the benefits of Council membership. \nThe Portland Art Museum Photography Council’s Lunchtime Talk series\, conceived in 2009 by Past Council President Jim Leisy as a means of introducing the Portland photography community to the wealth of talent and creative energy in our region\, has become one of the Council’s most popular public events. Since its inception\, the LTS has offered over one hundred and thirty monthly presentations by regional and visiting photographers/artists that are free and open to everyone interested in photographic arts and process.

DESCRIPTION:Cyanotype Making Workshop \nApril 19\, 2025\, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. \nFranklin Foto\n8953 N Lombard St\nPortland\, OR 97203\nWednesday – Sunday\, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.\nhttps://www.franklinfoto.org/ \n$100.00 \nStudents will learn how to prepare the chemical solution\, how to properly coat materials\, how to find exposure times and how to develop and wash cyanotypes. We will cover a variety of printing methods using cyanotypes. \nStudents will need to submit one photo before the workshop that they would like made into a digital negative. We will print the digital negative on a piece of transparency\, allowing for it to be used in the cyanotype process. It is recommended to submit detail-rich images with relatively even tones for best results. \nStudents will finish this workshop with a digital negative\, UV sensitive cyanotype paper and their completed cyanotype prints. The cyanotype prints will have to dry\, so students will need to return sometime in the next week to pick up their prints. \nAt Franklin FOTO we never want finances to be a barrier to access. SUMMARY:Rich Bergeman & Gary Tepfer: Desert Landscapes
DESCRIPTION:Rich Bergeman & Gary Tepfer: Desert Landscapes \nApril 25 – June 7\, 2025\nReception + Gallery Talk on Saturday April 26\, from 1-3pm \nWhite Lotus Gallery\n767 Willamette St\nEugene\, OR 97401\nwww.wlotus.com\nOpen Tuesday through Saturday 10am-4pm \nTwo veteran Oregon photographers–Gary Tepfer of Eugene and Rich Bergeman of Corvallis–are teaming up for an exhibit at White Lotus titled “From Steppe to Steppe\,” featuring color and black-and-white photographs of arid territories from Oregon’s High Desert to Asia’s Altai Mountains. \nBoth photographers\, working independently\, have been exploring desert environments for decades\, and while they share a love for the spare elegance of the land\, their interpretation of that land offers viewers some engaging contrasts. \nTepfer is known for his striking color images from the American Southwest\, Eastern Oregon and the steppes of Mongolia and Siberia\, regions he has visited many times over the past four decades. “I want to capture that aspect of the natural world that stands apart from human existence\,” Tepfer says. “But the locations to which I am drawn are often the same places that are the most rich in the ritual artifacts of ancient peoples.” \nBergeman\, on the other hand\, is a black-and-white photographer whose most recent work has focused on that portion of the Great Basin that lies within Oregon\, especially remnants of the paleolakes that dot the region. \n“I’ve always wondered about all those ‘lakes’ I’d see marked on maps that didn’t really exist as bodies of water\,” he says. “A little research taught me they were footprints of the great inland seas that once covered the area 10\,000 years ago. Intrigued\, I began to search for them and find ways to dramatize this curious evidence of the past.” \nBoth photographers have work in several private and public collections and over the years have been published in books and periodicals. \nTepfer’s photography can be seen at http://gtepfer.com/ and Bergeman’s at richbergeman.zenfolio.com and blurb.com.

He lives in Eugene\, Oregon. \n“I have been hiking on Spencer Butte since I moved to Eugene in 1994. First with my dog Jasper\, and for most of the years with Coffee\, a loyal Gordon Setter. Although the physical trail changes little from year to year the scenery is always unique. The seasons bring their changes and the light is always the main factor in photographs. The cloud and fog levels offer some of the most dramatic visions as they interact with the light. This is an ongoing project\, there’s often something interesting to photograph and a new dog to train. See you on the trail!” \nhttps://www.westernvisionphoto…

DESCRIPTION:Kathy Radie\, Outlawed Territory \nMay 10 – June 11\, 2025 \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery opens Kathy Radie’s “Outlawed Territory” from 4-7pm on Saturday\, May 10th. LightBox invites you to share the night with LightBox Guild member Kathy Radie who exhibits a collection of work in the LightBox Upper Gallery. \n“The back roads of America’s West always have a story to tell. The story becomes more interesting as the road narrows and the gravel roughens. \nThrough my lens\, I capture fragments of forgotten dreams and emerging stories. Each frame is a piece of a puzzle made up of abandoned ambitions\, heartbreak\, the enduring beauty of the land\, and the resilience of those who dare to settle in this rugged region. \nWho were the dreamers that envisioned a church\, a business\, or a ranch in these locations? And who\, even today\, tries to make a go of it in this demanding yet breathtaking landscape? \nMy photographs provide a fleeting glimpse into a faded past\, filled with secrets and layered stories that may never be fully uncovered. They also capture present pursuits rich with the promise of untold chapters waiting to be written.” \nKathy Radie \n| Instagram: kathyradie1 | kathyradie1@gmail.com | \nBachelor of Arts in Fine Art Photography and Art History\, The University of Iowa

SUMMARY:Christopher Rauschenberg: Backstage at Elizabeth Leach Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Christopher Rauschenberg: Backstage at Elizabeth Leach Gallery \nApril 30 – May 31\, 2025\nArtist talk in conversation with Malia Jensen: May 17\, 11 am \nElizabeth Leach Gallery\n417 NW 9th Avenue\nPortland\, OR 97209\n503-224-0521\nwww.ElizabethLeach.com\nTues – Sat: 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM & By Appointment \nElizabeth Leach Gallery is pleased to present Backstage\, an exhibition of photographs by Christopher Rauschenberg (ChristopherRauschenberg.com). \nDrawn from Studio Photography\, Rauschenberg’s longest-running series\, Backstage gives viewers a glimpse into an essential aspect of the art ecosystem\, the artist’s studio. As the child of artists and a curator himself\, Rauschenberg has frequented studios for his entire life\, and thus is particularly well-situated to draw the curtain aside for his audience. \nBorn of a feeling that the public isn’t shown behind the scenes often enough\, these works invite viewers into the studios of Portland-based artists\, as well as that of Rauschenberg’s mother\, Susan Weil. Through individual images and combinations that create fictional spaces\, Rauschenberg sets the stage to allow for discovery of these places of creation. With his deep involvement in Portland\, Oregon’s art scene\, Rauschenberg extends a welcome\, allowing us to look over his shoulder and engage with the artists around us. \nArtists whose studios are featured in Backstage include Katherine Ace\, Ebenezer Galluzzo\, Malia Jensen\, Joanne Radmilovich Kollman\, Henk Pander\, Laura Ross Paul\, Marie Watt\, and Susan Weil. \nBased in Portland\, Oregon\, Christopher Rauschenberg received his BA from Evergreen State College in Olympia\, Washington. His work has been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester\, MA)\, the Chicago Cultural Center (Chicago\, IL)\, the International Center of Photography (New York\, NY) and the George Eastman House (Rochester\, NY)\, among many other major institutions. An exceptionally active leader in the Northwest arts community\, Rauschenberg co-founded both Nine Gallery and the photography nonprofit Blue Sky Gallery (Portland\, Oregon).
