SUMMARY:Realms of Perception: Photographic Dualities at LightBox Photographic Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Realms of Perception: Photographic Dualities at LightBox Photographic Gallery \nThe Advanced Alumni Collective\nSusan Burnstine 2025 – 2026 \nJuly 11 – August 5\, 2026\nArtist’s reception on Saturday\, July 11 from 4-7pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nWe welcome the exhibiting artists: \nDaniel Sackheim • Laura Goin • Jim Bailey • Sharon Kain \nMoishe Lettvin • Rebecca Moseman • Philip Sager \nBrigitte Bourger • Landry Major • Jennifer Pritchard \n  \nThis exhibit features the work of the advanced alumni collective of Susan Burnstine. \n“Some artists shoot the world around them; others shoot from within. This group of artists creates from their own worlds\, perspectives\, and experiences with a clear\, consistent intention — a staple of my teaching. \nWhile this collection reflects a diverse spectrum of subjects and processes\, the consistency lies in each artist’s unique connection to the work. This connection is not only personal; it is unusual and difficult to replicate in today’s crowded market\, as it reflects the distinctiveness of each creator. \nRealms of Perception features an exceptional group of artists\, all of whom have studied with me for an extended period\, either in classes or private mentorships over five years or more. From earning a Guggenheim Fellowship to being named among Photolucida’s Top 50 in Critical Mass\, each artist stands out for a truly distinctive vision. \nFor nine months\, members of the Advanced Alumni Workshop worked under my guidance while also participating in monthly reviews with several esteemed members of the photographic community\, expanding their knowledge\, connections\, and clarity of direction. \nThis collective has become far more than a group of students. They are cherished friends\, and it has been an honor to support each of them as they forge new paths of understanding”. \n– Susan Burnstine \nComplete show info is on the LightBox website\, http://lightbox-photographic.com/shows/. LightBox also features work from The Guild at LightBox consisting of Jim Fitzgerald\, Jody Miller\, Julie Moore\, Marc McVey\, Rachel Wolf\, Kathy Radie\, Michael Puff\, Loren Nelson and Nicholas Dill. SUMMARY:Winter: Y 2 Y at LightBox Photographic Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Winter: Y 2 Y at LightBox Photographic Gallery \nTerry Thompson & Jim Fitzgerald\nWinter: Y 2 Y \nJuly 11 – August 5\, 2026\nArtist’s reception on Saturday\, July 11 from 4-7pm \nLightBox Photographic Gallery & Fine Printing\n1045 Marine Drive\nAstoria\, Oregon 97103\n(503) 468-0238\nHours: Wednesday – Saturday 12 pm to 5 pm \nThe combined forces of Terry Thompson and Jim Fitzgerald gave rise to their show known as Winter: Y 2 Y (Yosemite to Yellowstone). Their images that capture the feeling of light\, bitter cold and subtle details of their environments are presented as Platinotypes and carbon transfer contact prints. \nRich with precious metals and displaying special techniques developed over many decades\, Terry Thompson’s Platinotypes are unique\, one-of-a-kind glimpses into the frozen world of Yellowstone. The challenges of working with film in sub zero temperatures are many; but the desire to complete his vision overcomes all of these obstacles. His prints\, made by hand\, exhibit his connection to the environment. \nMeanwhile\, the delicate richness of Jim Fitzgerald’s carbon transfer prints transport the viewer through the corners of Yosemite which are only accessible in the cold frozen days of winter. Each hand-made carbon transfer print is a testament to the beauty of this frozen landscape. Utilizing unique pigments and special formulas\, known only to the artist\, the luminous icicles in the frozen waters of Bridalveil creek and rare seasonal snow melts of El Capitan meadow glisten against the steadfast Black Oaks in a three dimensional dance of light. \nThe images of harsh winters of Yellowstone and Yosemite are but a glimpse of their natural beauty that they desperately need to preserve. Everyone must make every effort necessary to save people’s National Parks and environment from the ravages of mankind. Winter: Y 2 Y is a reminder of the power of Mother Nature\, a power that can be subtle or devastating. \n– Jim Fitzgerald & Terry Thompson July\, 2026 \nComplete show info is on the LightBox website\, http://lightbox-photographic.com/shows/.
