Over five decades\, Rauschenberg has compiled a truly distinctive archive of photographs encompassing a wide array of themes\, styles\, uses of the medium\, and range of subjects and content. This important resource represents a diverse mix of international and nationally emerging and established photographers. \nRauschenberg typically acquires photographs directly from the artists or from non-profit community-based arts organizations exhibiting or representing their works. \nRauschenberg has also traveled extensively and participated for decades as a highly regarded reviewer of photography portfolios at international gatherings of specialists who utilize and support opportunities for working creative photographers. \nIn Gathering\, one will find a wealth of individual points of view that\, when engaged\, may broaden each of our own visions: whether those considered perspectives are personal\, familiar\, social\, cultural\, political\, or spiritual. \nChristopher Rauschenberg reflects on his building of the collection: \n“At the core of what I’m doing is acquiring prints directly from photographers. That’s where I get my real satisfaction in collecting. With photography\, one literally sees the world through someone else’s eyes\, and we each have a different way of looking at the world around us. Having seen the work of thousands of photographers\, I’ve had a great many opportunities to discover new ways of seeing. Lommasson is a recipient of the Dorothea Lange–Paul Taylor Prize from The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Lommasson’s ongoing collaborative storytelling projects: What We Carried: Fragments and Memories from the Cradle of Civilization with Iraqi and Syrian refugees was exhibited at the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration in 2018. The sky is blue\, the tree is green\, and the squirrel is brown. At rare times during the year people may notice the bright red of a rose in spring or the yellow\, orange\, and red of leaves in fall. \nPainters expand that pallet of nature’s colors by mixing their paints to find the shades of that red rose\, lighten and darkening the blue of the sky\, or noting that there are several shades of yellow\, orange\, and red in those fall leaves. Looking closer they may note some green in the yellow and some brown in the orange of those leaves. But even most painters don’t see like a camera’s photographic vision picking up multitudes of tones\, shades\, and colors. \nPhotographers take what the camera records and turn that into what the photographer sees. That vision may be idealized or as true to human vision as the photographer can make it. The choice is the photographers’ to decide how to show the colors of nature.” \nAs an award-winning nature photographer Greg has a keen interest in the state of not only our wild places but our urban environment – the world outside our door. His years of experience have honed his eye to focus on and appreciate the details present in nature. He believes that the average person should spend more time to notice and focus on where we live. People need to connect\, appreciate\, and protect the world around them. \nGreg has been a serious photographer for over fifty years. He has ranged in styles from fine art black and white photography to architectural photography\, to color commercial product macro photography\, to event photography\, and onto nature photography which includes wide-angle\, macro\, and telephoto in both color and black & white photos of plant\, flower\, landscapes\, bird\, and other wildlife. \nHis photography is enhanced by his background in architecture\, jewelry\, and landscape design and construction.
