Over five decades\, Rauschenberg has compiled a truly distinctive archive of photographs encompassing a wide array of themes\, styles\, uses of the medium\, and range of subjects and content. This important resource represents a diverse mix of international and nationally emerging and established photographers. \nRauschenberg typically acquires photographs directly from the artists or from non-profit community-based arts organizations exhibiting or representing their works. \nRauschenberg has also traveled extensively and participated for decades as a highly regarded reviewer of photography portfolios at international gatherings of specialists who utilize and support opportunities for working creative photographers. \nIn Gathering\, one will find a wealth of individual points of view that\, when engaged\, may broaden each of our own visions: whether those considered perspectives are personal\, familiar\, social\, cultural\, political\, or spiritual. \nChristopher Rauschenberg reflects on his building of the collection: \n“At the core of what I’m doing is acquiring prints directly from photographers. That’s where I get my real satisfaction in collecting. With photography\, one literally sees the world through someone else’s eyes\, and we each have a different way of looking at the world around us. Having seen the work of thousands of photographers\, I’ve had a great many opportunities to discover new ways of seeing. DESCRIPTION:Oregon Coast Photography Workshop with Steve Anchell \nOctober 10 to 15\, 2025 \nFrom Astoria to Florence \nTuition: $895 \nLimited to 10 participants\n(Transportation is included for 6 or more participants) \nThe Oregon Coast features expansive sandy beaches\, rocky headlands\, unique sea stacks\, abundant tide pools\, and renowned marine vistas. Photographers seeking dramatic ocean views with rugged cliffs meeting turbulent waves should prioritize a visit to the Oregon Coast. \nAs they present themselves\, our subjects will be diverse marine and plant species\, sea birds\, whales\, sea lions\, and lighthouses\, and stunning coastal landscapes. Steve will also demonstrate how to make long exposures of wave motion. \nThere will be free time to explore historic coastal towns and areas. \nThis workshop is open to all levels of photographers. You are welcome to bring any image capturing device\, from a cell phone to a large format film camera. (People are welcome to bring their lunch.) \nWithin the Bittersweet: Artist and Publisher Talk with Allison Grant and Evan Baden \n\nPhotographer Allison Grant will discuss Within the Bittersweet\, her\nlong-form photographic project that explores the emotional weight of raising\nher daughters in Tuscaloosa\, Alabama\, against the backdrop of climate crisis and local industrial pollution. Drawing on a long tradition of socially\nconscious photographers who make political work laden with the personal\, her images negotiate pressing new concerns as our planet undergoes rapid and irreversible change. \nGrant will be joined by Oregon State University professor and publisher Evan Baden\, who oversees Composit Press. Composit is a student-run press that recently published a monograph of Grant’s project. Baden will share insights into the publication process and evolving landscape of photo book publishing. \nAllison Grant is an artist\, writer\, curator\, and Associate Professor of\nPhotography at The University of Alabama. Her artworks have been widely\nexhibited and are held in collections at the Bainbridge Island Museum of\nArt\, Birmingham Museum of Art\, High Museum of Art\, DePaul Art Museum\, \nColumbia College Chicago\, King County Portable Works Collection and several private and corporate collections. Grant was named on the Silver Eye Center for Photography’s 2022 Silver List. She received the 2020 Portfolio Purchase Award from the Atlanta Photography Group\, the 2019 Developed Work Fellowship from the Midwest Center for Photography and was shortlisted for the 2019 FotoFilmic Mesh Prize. Editorial photographs by Grant have been published in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. \nhttps://www.allisongrant.com/ \nEvan Baden earned his MFA from Columbia College in Chicago in 2014. His bodies of work include The Illuminati\, Technically Intimate\, Under the Influence\, A Conversão de São Paulo\, and The _______ High School Yearbook Project. They have been widely exhibited internationally with museums and galleries throughout Europe and the United States. His work is held in public collections such as the Walker Art Center\, Milwaukee Art Museum\, FOAM Amsterdam\, the Finnish Museum of Photography\, the Museum of Contemporary Photography\, and the Kinsey Institute. Evan’s work has been featured in numerous publications including TIME\, The Guardian\, FOAM\, New York Magazine\, Le Monde\, D della Repubblica\, Geo\, and DIE ZEIT and many others. Baden has been the recipient of the Jerome Fellowship for Emerging Artists\, the Stuart Abelson Graduate Research Fellowship\, and Artist in Residence at the Oregon College of Art and Craft. He has been a finalist for the Betty Bowen Award\, The McKnight Fellowship for Photography\, the Outwin Boochever\, as well as nominated for the Baum Award for Emerging American Photographers and the PDN 30.
