Over five decades\, Rauschenberg has compiled a truly distinctive archive of photographs encompassing a wide array of themes\, styles\, uses of the medium\, and range of subjects and content. This important resource represents a diverse mix of international and nationally emerging and established photographers. \nRauschenberg typically acquires photographs directly from the artists or from non-profit community-based arts organizations exhibiting or representing their works. \nRauschenberg has also traveled extensively and participated for decades as a highly regarded reviewer of photography portfolios at international gatherings of specialists who utilize and support opportunities for working creative photographers. \nIn Gathering\, one will find a wealth of individual points of view that\, when engaged\, may broaden each of our own visions: whether those considered perspectives are personal\, familiar\, social\, cultural\, political\, or spiritual. \nChristopher Rauschenberg reflects on his building of the collection: \n“At the core of what I’m doing is acquiring prints directly from photographers. That’s where I get my real satisfaction in collecting. With photography\, one literally sees the world through someone else’s eyes\, and we each have a different way of looking at the world around us. Having seen the work of thousands of photographers\, I’ve had a great many opportunities to discover new ways of seeing. Join us for a hands-on\, two-part workshop that will boost your confidence with lighting\, posing\, and creative composition\, both in studio and on location in Astoria\, Oregon. All registrants for this event will receive a seperate email with more thorough details on the meeting point for this workshop. \nYou’ll walk away with: \n✓ Practical\, repeatable lighting setups\n✓ Confidence directing and posing models\n✓ A deeper understanding of how to adapt lighting and composition on location \nWhat to Bring \nCamera with portrait lens (Recommended focal lengths: 50mm\, 85mm\, or 105mm)\, fully charged battery\, and memory card(s). \nWho is this for? \nThis workshop is open to photographers of all levels\, but you should have a working knowledge of manual camera settings: ISO\, aperture\, shutter speed\, and white balance\, and how to adjust them on your camera. \nSCHEDULE \nPart 1: Introduction to Lighting | 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM \nWe’ll start in the studio with an immersive introduction to lighting fundamentals. You’ll learn how to set up and work with classic setups like Rembrandt\, beauty\, and clamshell. This session includes a walk-through of essential gear\, camera\, and lighting settings. \nAttendees have the opportunity to work with a model\, gaining experience in posing\, directing\, and composing strong portraits in a controlled environment. \nMeal Break | 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM \nGrab a bite at one of the many great spots in the area. The team will make some recommendations! \nPart 2: On Location in Astoria | 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM \nThe second half of this workshop will be on location in Downtown Astoria. \nWe will work with both available light and adding flash. Kate will lead creative demonstrations and provide guidance on posing\, directing\, and finding compelling backgrounds.
