SUMMARY:Scenes from the 2020 Protests in Portland by Sai Stone at Franklin Foto
DESCRIPTION:Scenes from the 2020 Protests in Portland by Sai Stone at Franklin Foto \nApril 5\, 5-8 p.m. \nFranklin Foto\n8953 N Lombard St\nPortland\, OR 97203\nWednesday – Sunday\, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.\nhttps://www.franklinfoto.org/ \nIn 2020\, Portland photographer Sai Stone was on the streets to witness the protests that began in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in May of 2020. Five years later\, in an era of renewed political upheaval\, we reexamine that time with Sai’s images. \n“Sai’s photography captures the raw intensity and significance of the 2020 police brutality protests\, amidst a backdrop of social unrest and a global pandemic. Through his lens\, he skillfully navigates the chaotic and emotionally charged scenes\, documenting the powerful moments that unfold on the streets of Portland Oregon. \nHis photographs convey a profound sense of urgency and activism\, reflecting the collective outcry for justice and equality. Each frame captures the human spirit\, as protesters bravely confront systemic issues and demand societal change. These photographs reveal the diverse faces and voices at the heart of these movements\, providing a platform for marginalized communities to be seen and heard.” \n-Sai Stone \nAn opening reception is scheduled for Saturday\, April 5\, from 5-8 p.m. \nSai’s work will be on display through the month of April. \nFranklin Foto is a community darkroom and gallery space located in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood.
