PhotoZone Gallery July membership exhibition is showing at the Emerald Art Center. This month’s Featured Artist is David Simone, showing photographs from his ongoing series of images taken in Cuba just before lock down. This collection includes composite images of Cuban life and some that explore Cuba’s history of colonial slavery. Photographs from Cuban towns and rural areas, as well as portraits are also included. “The people are very industrious and generally very friendly. Cuba is a colorful, tropical and visual feast.” “But,” David says, “look closer and you’ll see the history of colonial oppression and cruelty. Look again, for the common person, the revolution’s outcome has yielded mixed results.”

The exhibition runs from June 30th through July 30th. The Emerald Art Center is located at 500 Main St. Springfield, OR 97477 and is open Wednesdays though Saturdays 11-4 PM.
A reception will be held July 9th from 5 to 7 pm at Emerald Arts Center.
