We have scheduled our next Carbon Transfer Workshop with Jim Fitzgerald. The workshop is completely hands on and intensive in learning and practicing all the steps required to make beautiful Carbon Transfer Prints. Please join us!
Carbon Transfer prints display an incredible tonal range, the emulsion forms a relief in the surface of the print which creates a feeling of dimension, and the carbon pigmented emulsion is stable and will not fade for 10000 years. They are produced as contact prints from in camera and or digital negs.
“In this workshop we will cover the fundamentals of the process of carbon transfer printing and you will learn about the materials needed, how to make the pigmented gelatin called “glop”, how to pour the warm gelatin onto the temporary support which is called tissue, sensitize the tissue with Ammonium Dichromate, expose the tissue to a UV light source, transfer the tissue to the final support paper, develop the image in the hot water bath and techniques for finishing the print. This sounds like a daunting task with many steps but do not worry. With my guidance I will take you through these steps and explain how everything is in balance with each other. It sounds harder than it is, trust me! Most of all we will have a great deal of fun! I absolutely love what I do and love to pass on my knowledge to future carbon printers or even satisfy the curiosity of “how is it done?” The process is a contact printing process and we will be using 8×10 negatives. I use 8×10 film negatives and I will bring some to print. All of the materials will be provided. All I ask is to bring your enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to learn one of the finest printing process I have ever discovered.
The cost for the workshop is $499, with all materials provided!
